A cog in the machine...

Den of the Beastly Bear

Hi Folks!

Sad and strange day here at work.

One of the guys that work in my plant on first shift, shot and killed himself today in the plant, in front of his ex-fiancee....which we can only assume was the impetus for today's events.

As second shift came in we were directed to our team room to await final decision on whether the line will run tonight...

40 minutes later...

Official word is "our condolences to the family, grief counselors are in place for those that feel they need it...the line will start in 20 minutes!" Gotta love GM!!!

While we all realize we are just cogs in the machine, nothing brings it home quite so completely as when something like this happens.

One cog wears out, no problem...replace it with a new one, restart the machine!

*heavy sigh*

Well, time to make the trucks!

Be Well Folks!

  1. Geez that's horrible! I really would have thought they'd shut it down though.

    1. One would think JoJo...makes you think when the company tells you "we care"! They care alright, about production and profit! Sad really...

  2. OMG, that is awful. They should have shut it down...at least for the night. Wow. Glad you are safe. This is a crazy world we live in.

    1. At least he chose to only end his own life, he did it in front of his ex-fiancee and could easily have taken her with him. There are rumors there is more to the story, I'll not malign the man by spreading them though, very sad. I didn't know the guy but a couple of my crew had worked with him before.

  4. Holy crap! I would've went home! Of course GM isn't going to shut down. It's all about the money for them but if everybody had gone home there'd have been no money. Such a sad and strange day is right.. How absolutely horrible and I'm so glad you weren't injured or anyone else, he could have easily turned that gun on anyone else.. I bet Kathy flipped out..

    1. Well, MiMi as Team Leader that was not an option open to me...
It happened on first shift and I had already gotten a heads up before I left for work so I was able to talk to her about it before I left. It certainly could have been much, much worse...
