A Gadget to fuel your addiction

Den of the Beastly Bear

Hi folks, day 4 of subzero weather here in the Mit!
Being that most of us are inside staying warm, I got to thinking about what many of us are doing...

Remember back last week when I started this blog I mentioned I'd be sharing some of my favorite things?

Well today is one of those days!

Through reading the blog of one of my friends(http://www.magicalmysticalmimi.com, if you're not reading her, you should be!!!), I discovered that she shares the same addiction as my daughter.
And just like my daughter, I'm afraid I've become an enabler.

Some people can use casually and not be the worse for wear.

Then there are those hard core addicts, like my daughter...like my friend! I don't want to use names...as there's a certain amount shame that goes along with this addiction. I applaud my friend's bravery in blogging about it, in spite of that!!!

It eats away at your life, keeps you from doing the things you should...makes you ignore friends and family, you may even lose whole days!!!
The addiction of which I speak?
Netflix addiction!

The way I enabled my daughter was through the gift of a Chromecast! What is that, you may ask?
The Chromecast is a nifty little gadget, made by Google that allows you to "cast" things from your laptop/tablet/phone directly to your HDTV over your wireless network!
WHAT, WHAT?!?
Yes, directly to your TV!
What things you ask?
Well, Netfix, YouTube, Pandora, HBOgo, and if you use the Chrome browser on your laptop you can cast the browser page to your TV! Cool right?
So now you're saying "Yeah Bear, that's cool...but what's it cost?"
Well folks that's the best part... $35
Yep, that's it! You can get them at your local Best Buy, or online from Amazon or right from Google!

Here's how it works.
Plug the Chromecast into your secondary HDMI port on your TV.
Plug the power cord either into your USB port on newer TV's or into the wall with the supplied adapter.
Use the "input" button on your remote to select the proper HDMI port you used and follow the set up instructions supplied.
In under ten minutes you're ready to go!!!
Now open Netflix on your phone/tablet/laptop!
There will now be a "cast" icon on the upper right side.
Start your movie, hit the cast button select "my Chromecast"(or whatever you named it)...and magic happens!!! Your movie is now playing full screen on your TV!!!
Way Cool!!!

So now dear readers, I have enabled you too!

Though I've shared this information, I take no responsibility for missed appointments, forgetting meals, loss of friendships or any other hermit like behavior! I only supply the information, what you decide to do with it...is up to you!!!

Now back to my "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" marathon...wait, have I eaten today???

The addicted Beastly Bear...
(There, I admitted it too!)

  4. Since everything at my daughters house comes up Netflix I will have to tell her about this little Google Chrome cast tool to make her Netflix watching even better! Thanks for sharing that- I think I saw that at Best Buy during the Christmas Chaos, but didn't really look at it to see what it was all about.
